News > November 10, 2004 - Kinetic purchases large Mattison grinder. Ask any grinderman what is the best large surface grinder in the world and you will get a common answer: a Mattison. There is only one problem; Mattison Machine Works of Rockford, Illinois went out of business in 1997 because of a lawsuit over a wood working machine that they made in 1948. So how do you get a “new” Mattison? Purchase an old one and get it rebuilt to better then new specifications. Cash Masters looked at several large table Mattisons before selecting the one that would be best for Kinetic and our customers. The machine he bought has a 36” x 168” [914mm x 4,267mm] table with 36” [914mm] clearance under the grinding wheel. He then arranged for it to be sent to our friends at Dial Industries in Rockford, Illinois for a complete rebuild. Dial has worked closely with Kinetic on several Mattison rebuilds and computer retrofits to other grinders. Learn more about Dial at www.dial-industries.com This machine is being torn down to the casting. The ways and gibs are being remachined and rescraped; bearings replaced; motors rewound; hydraulic systems upgraded. The final step will be to sandblast the casting and repaint it before reassembly. This machine will be better than it was when it left the Mattison factory when new. We poured a base for this machine and are waiting for its arrival at Kinetic during the summer of 2005. This machine will allow us to handle 100% of our steel mill customers’ grinding requirements. We also intend to do large plate grinding as well as contract surface grinding. |
