Let Kinetic help you with solve your complex grinding projects

Custom Grinding Projects a Specialty

When you have the need for a specialized manufactured part you can either buy the steel and then sub-contract the various manufacturing processes. Spending your time and money generating PO’s and chasing vendors. And hoping the final product is to specifications or you know you will spend even more of your time and money correcting the problem. Or you can rely on the talents of Kinetic’s engineering staff, skilled machinists, and the finest machine shop facilities in mid-America to be your machine shop. One order; one point of responsibility.

This customer came to us asking for an A-36 mild steel plate, flame cut and finish ground holding flatness and parallelism of .001” [.0254mm]. Not a problem for Kinetic. We purchased the steel, had it flame cut, stress relieved, and did the grinding; one stop shopping and single source responsibility. The customer received the finished part that beat their expectations within the time frame that their scheduling required.

A-36 part manufactured complete

This customer came to us with some flame cut A-36 steel which was needed for a machine frame. The parts needed to be Blanchard rough ground and then Mattison finish ground to +/- .001 flatness with parallelism to within .001”. Kinetic has the machines to handle both tasks giving our customer the delivery he required for his production schedule.

Machine Frame Grinding

Our 84" [2133mm] Blanchard made quick work of the rough grinding; but the customer's tight flatness and parallelism requirements required finish grinding on our large Mattison.

Finish Grinding Machine Frame

To meet the tight tolerances required by our customer we finish ground this frame section on our 36" [915mm] x 168" [4267mm] Mattison. Kinetic has the skill and equipment to both rough and finish grind the parts in house.

Bevel Grinding Long D-2 Part

A customer came to us with a problem that was unique to him but "in a day’s work" for Kinetic. He had a very long bar made out of AISI D-2 Tool Steel. It was hardened to R58/60C. He needed to have a bevel ground on each edge but didn’t know who could do that - Kinetic could. Not many people have a 36" [915mm] x 168" [4267mm] Mattison; and fewer still have a magnetic swivel chuck that can be mounted on it. Cash Masters saw this fixture several years ago at an auction and said: "That is going to be valuable to Kinetic some day". It was very valuable to this customer who had the work done on his schedule.

This customer came to us with an unusual request: he had a 39” [990mm] diameter piece of aluminum that he needed ground. The first problem was lifting; our crane mounted magnets were of no value; not an issue for Kinetic.
Precision Aluminum Grinding
When you have the right tools any job is easy. Once on the magnetic table the aluminum disc was blocked in for grinding.

Inspecting Aluminum Surface Finish
Our customer was particular; he wanted a specific surface finish along with having us hold the flatness and parallelism to .0015” [.038mm]. Again not a problem for Kinetic; we have the knowhow and we have the inspection equipment necessary for the job.

Grinding Bearing Blocks

Our customer came to us with an A-36 Bearing Block. He asked that we grind it to within .001” [.025mm] dimension tolerance with all surfaces to be square with .002” [.05mm]. All in a day’s work for Kinetic.

Grinding Die Blocks

Kinetic’s 36” x 168” [915mm x 4267mm] Mattison makes short work grinding a customer’s hardened H-13 die blocks. Holding them flat and parallel to within .001” [.025mm] was no problem for this machine and Kinetic’s grindermen.

Grinding Head Slide

This customer came to us with a job that would have stumped most shops. But when you got the right tools including a 5 ton [4535kg] overhead crane and a huge Mattison surface grinder which holds spot on tolerances it is just another job for Kinetic. Our customer wanted this head slide weighing 7000 lbs [2612kg] for a large grinder to have the gib side and mounting surface ground to within .0005” [0.01mm]. Job done on time and meeting our customers tolerances.

Grinding Ways for a Gidding & Lewis Boring Bar

A customer came to us with some 14 ft [4267mm] ways for a Giddings & Lewis Boring bar. Our customer was rebuilding this machine and needed to have the ways reground. Our 36” [915mm] x 168” [4267mm] Mattison horizontal grinder made short work out of grinding these long ways to within .0008” [.020mm]. All in a day’s work when you have the correct equipment!

Grinding Castings

Here experienced Kinetic Blanchard grinderman Mario Fregoso is checking to see if he is at final dimension on some precision castings which he ground the heights to +/- .002” (.05mm) using our 84” (2133mm) Blanchard grinder. When you have the correct equipment, grinding wheels and operator skills jobs like this are easy

Grinding back of 42” Mattison Rotary table

Sometimes we are our best customer. Here our 54” (1370mm) Mattison is helping with some repair work for our 42” (1066mm) Mattison. After running hard for 15 years our 42” (1066mm) Mattison needed some maintenance. We had to scrap the table support ways and before doing it we needed to “clean it up” and give a good clean surface for scraping. So we simply “flipped it” and put it on our 54” (1370mm) Mattison and got it ready for scraping. When your shop is full of “high powered grinders” this job was a cinch.

Kinetic is more than knives!
